Violet Grace Ravenscraft, 85, of Aurora, IN, died Tuesday, February 16, 2010 in Aurora, IN.
She was born Thursday, November 13, 1924 in Gallatin County, Kentucky, Daughter of the late Ernest Rider and the late Mary Lucille Dean. She worked as a Supervisor for Cochran Chair Factory, retiring after over 28 years of service .
Violet was a member of First Baptist Church Aurora since 1953, achieving 44 years of perfect attendance. She was an active member of the Association for Baptist Women's group and served as treasurer for many years. She was also a member of RSVP. According to the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Violet has accumulated an amazing 3,325.5 volunteer hours with in a five year period. (This was in 2004, additional hours have been added since.) Violet was an exceptional person, always giving of herself to others. She received many awards and certificates for her faithful volunteer service. In 2004, Violet won the Woman of the Year Award, also in 2004 the Martin H. Miller Senior Volunteer of the Year Award, Cincinnati Fine Arts Fund "You Make A Difference Award" in 2001 and 2002, and was nominated for the Dearborn County Heart of Gold Award in 2000 and 2002.
Some of her volunteering included; Dearborn County Hospital Chaplain's Assistant, Pink Lady, Main Street Aurora, Aurora Garden Club, Heart House , the Clearinghouse and the Dearborn County Extension Office, wrapping hundreds of shoe boxes every year for Samaritans Purse Christmas Program, decorated bags for the Meals on Wheels Program, helped with packages for the We Care Package Program for our Soldiers, Stuffed brochures for the Aurora Public Library, Hillforest Historical Society and Aurora Utility Company, volunteered at St Vincent DePaul food Pantry at St Marys Catholic Church, made door decorations for nursing homes, as well as, many other volunteer projects that go unnamed. In her spare time, she kept an immaculate garden. She always had a positive attitude and seem to always go out of her way to help others.
Surviving are Several Great Nieces & Nephews. Many friends and people whose lives were touched by Violet's time, talent and efforts. She will be greatly missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan Leroy Ravenscraft.
Friends will be received 12:00 - 2:00 PM, Monday, February 22, 2010 at the Rullman Hunger Funeral Home, Aurora, Indiana.
Services will be held at the Funeral Home, Monday, at 2:00 pm, immediately following visitation, with Rev William Secrest officiating.
Interment will follow in the Riverview Cemetery, Aurora, IN.
