Mildred L. McCoy Starker, 98, of Aurora, IN, died Saturday, October 17, 2009 in Dillsboro, IN.
She was born Friday, December 30, 1910 in Osgood, Indiana, Daughter of the late Charles N. McCoy and the late Anna Fremdlin McCoy. She was one of four children, Lea, Bob, Bill & Mildred.
She was a member of Osgood Methodist Church, the Aurora First United Methodist Church since 1936, Eastern Star, Phi Beta Psi Sorority, and the Retired Teachers Assoc.
Mrs. Starker (Ms. McCoy) graduated from Indianapolis Teachers College. She taught at Fowl School & Newman School near Napoleon, IN. Both were one room schools with all 8 Grades. Mrs. Starker taught 6 years at Osgood where she had 3rd and 4th grades. Her younger brother, Bill was one of her students at Osgood. Mildred married Gerald Starker in 1936. She quit teaching to raise their 2 sons, Gary and Larry. Later she returned to her teaching career at Moores Hill, Milan and Aurora Elementary Schools. She retired in 1976, after over 32 years of teaching.
Surviving are Sons, Gary Starker of Aurora, IN, Larry (wife, Linda) Starker of Aurora, IN; Brother, Bill McCoy of Seal Beach, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Starker.
Friends will be received 5:00 - 7:00 PM, Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at the Rullman Hunger Funeral Home, Aurora, Indiana.
Services will be held at the Funeral Home, Wednesday, at 11:00 am with Pastor David Patterson officiating.
Interment will follow in the Riverview Cemetery, .
