John E. Johnson Sr., 85, of Sunman, IN, passed away Saturday, June 11, 2011 in Lawrenceburg, IN.

He was born Saturday, August 29, 1925 in Pittsburg, Kentucky, Son of the late George Johnson and the late May Mooren Johnson.

Mr. Johnson served his Country during WWII as a member of the United States Navy. He worked as a Truck Driver and was self- employed. He was a member of Lawrenceburg American Legion. Mr. Johnson's favorite pastime was conversation. He enjoyed talking with everyone he met, often needing to be reminded to finish eating his meal or nudged into moving on by waiting family members. He didn't know a stranger. He will be missed by family and friends.

Surviving are Son, John E. (Brenda) Johnson Jr. of Sunman, IN; Grandsons, John E. Johnson III of Sunman, IN; James Paul Johnson of Sunman, IN; Brother, George Johnson of Hamilton, Oh; Sister, Lucy Couch of Lawrenceburg, IN.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma L. Phipps Johnson.


Friends will be received 12:00 - 2:00 PM, Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at the Rullman Hunger Funeral Home, Aurora, Indiana.

Services will be held at the Funeral Home, Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Charles Hill officiating.

Interment will follow in the Mt. Sinai Cemetery, Aurora, IN. Military graveside services will be conducted by members of local Veterans Service Organizations.
