Alfred “Al” Lang, 91 passed away Saturday, June 13, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital, Indianapolis. Alfred was born on February 8, 1918 in Friendship, Indiana to Albert and Edith (Schill) Lang. Alfred married Edythe M. Shuter on June 22, 1940. She preceded him in death on January 27, 2001

          Survivors include a son, Stephen R. (Marie) Lang of Greenwood, a granddaughter Rebecca (Dan) Sweeney and 4 nieces and nephews. Alfred is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Lawrence and Charles Lang.

 

          Alfred graduated from Dillsboro High School in 1937. Alfred worked for the Scheruly Distillery in the plant protection for 43 years, retiring in 1981 at the age of 63. He was a member of Greenwood United Methodist Church.

 

Alfred Lang was very active with the American Legion and the Masonic Lodges; in which he was a 33rd Degree Mason, in Aurora, In. He was also active with the VFW #5864 and the Shrine here in Greenwood.

 

Alfred “Al” Lang is a Navy veteran having served during WWII. One of his many bravest moments was when he served 2 ½ years in South Pacific where he witnessed the raising of the flag at Iwo Jima.

 

          Rev. Bill Hoopes will conduct a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Greenwood United Methodist Church 525 N. Madison Ave.

Friend may call from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Greenwood Chapel 481 W. Main St. A calling will also be scheduled from 3:00-4:30 P.M. Wednesday at Rullman Hunger Funeral Home, 219 Mechanic St. Aurora, In. 47001.  Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Aurora In.
